We’re Moving… a few sections to new locations!

You know how your favorite grocery store will move things around, turning a familiar trip into a game of hunt and seek?  If you are like most of us, you probably find these changes a little annoying (particularly when you’re in a hurry). However, every once in a while these changes can be good like when you find something new.

Where am I going with this? Well, your Ligonier Valley Library recently decided to shake things up bit by relocating a few familiar sections into unfamiliar territory.

Audiobook on CD Section

Audiobooks on CD can now be found just passed the entrance to our Re-Readable bookstore, heading toward the children’s department.

For those patrons who enjoy the Audiobooks on Playaway, you will now find them situated next to the Large Print section (opposite the books on CD).

Audiobooks on
Playaway Section

Teens, we hope you will be the most excited by our changes! No doubt, you noticed how tight the shelves were in your section. We also imagine that you were wondering about so many favorite titles being sent to a mystical place called ‘storage.’ Well, we have good news… we relocated your section and now there is more room for your old favorites as well as the new titles you have been so anxiously awaiting!

Young Adult Books
& Graphic Novel Section

The Young Adult Books & Graphic Novels are now located on the stand-out shelves after the Adult DVD & VHS tapes. Now you can browse for movies, then move down the rows to the teen section. The really brave can take a few extra steps and venture into the Adult Fiction section.

Come to think of it… when traveling from movies to adult fiction or vice versa, we encourage our adult patrons to make a stop in between! You might be surprised by the number of really good young adult books you’ll find.

We realize that change can be scary and even annoying, but it can also be an adventure! We hope you’ll find yourself becoming acquainted with a whole different part of the library… perhaps a section you’ve either never visited or haven’t visited in awhile.

Will we be moving any other sections around? Absolutely not! No way!  Ok, it’s doubtful.  Probably not… but never say never. Guess you will just have to stop by the library and find out.

If you have any questions or need help finding anything, please ask at one of the circulation desks and we’ll try to point you in the right direction.

9/11 Anniversary Tribute

On September 11, 2001, the world changed forever….
Americans held their breath as the horrible news of a plane crashing into the World Trade Center’s North Tower spread across televisions and over the airwaves. At first we were shocked by the idea that a plane could malfunction so tragically, but then the news broke that another plane had struck the South Tower and we knew this was no accident. The tragedies where never ending that day. Two more hijacked planes would meet terrible ends, crashing into the Pentagon and a field in Somerset County, Pennsylvania. Many people gave their lives on 9/11 – firefighters and police officers rushing into towers that would collapse; innocent people trapped in the buildings and on the planes; a group of Americans who took matters into their own hands and forced their plane down before it could hit its target… to name just a few.

Quilt by Carroll Labarthe

Commemorating the 10th Anniversary of 9/11, a mini-exhibit is on display just outside the Pennsylvania Room. The exhibit includes a mixture of photographs, newspapers, magazines, posters and more.

Featured in the display is a hand-painted, pieced and quilted wall hanging designed and created by local resident Carroll Labarthe. The quilt depicts one of the Twin Towers, and was inspired by a photograph from the New Yorker.

The mini-exhibit can be viewed during normal library hours, and will remain up through the end of September.

End of Summer Bargain Book Sale @ Ligonier Valley Library!

Ligonier Valley Library is having an end of summer clearance sale! Our storage room is bursting with hundreds of donated hardcover and paperback titles. Some are a little dated, others are a little faded and have a torn page or two, but they are all too valuable for the trash bin. All books are priced at 25 cents each!

The sale will open in the library’s lower level community room on Saturday, August 27, from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. The sale will continue during regular library hours through September 17th.

Re-Readables, the library’s book store, will be open during the book sale; however, store inventory is not included in the 25 cents sale.

We love your book donations, but…
We do not need any additional items for this year’s book sale due to an excess of well-worn, older novels and titles already donated.

We are only accepting (at this time) current (hardcover and paperback) books, DVDs, videos, CDs, classics and collectible books in excellent physical condition for our Re-Readables book store.

Please call the library at 724-238-6451 prior to delivering older items. Thank you!
